Inspired by timeless love songs and New Wave power ballads, the song oscillates between shimmering, synth-laden interludes and an explosive chorus that expounds on the artist’s frustration with a withholding lover. Despite addressing a subject “lost in indecision,” Zilched delivers her signature ethereal pop sound with undeniable clarity. 

On the track’s inception and inspiration, Drallos offers, “I wrote this song after the record was already mastered and assumed done. I was in this purgatorial period both with music and my love life. After a long and confusing night, I sat with my acoustic guitar and wrote ‘Loveless’ before I finished my coffee. I’d spent the fall listening to French chansons and Florence + The Machine, which inspired the newfound confidence and freedom in my vocal performance.”

Enlisting the collaboration of indie-rocker and fellow Detroiter Ian Ruhala (HALA), she reimagined the acoustic ballad into a pop anthem of epic proportions. ‘Loveless’ exemplifies the maturation of the “unparalleled alt-rock authenticity and stadium-sized pop sensibilities” for which Zilched has been celebrated by Under The Radar, Refinery29, Audiotree, New Noise and more.
